Areas 4 and 5

The year is almost over, again. As usual, preparations for the celebrations, gift shopping and those kind of things are taking most of my free time. But there's been some solid progress lately for both areas 4 and 5.
I'll just let the pics do the talking:

Area 4 now uses a brand new custom tile set, giving the place a lot more personality, compared to the older revision. There will be some interaction with some machinery, as you might expect.
The outside part of the tower was also given an original tile set, custom made for this huge structure.
And last, but not least, I started revamping the old Power Bomb animation. Up to last week, the power bomb looked like in the first trailer, with coarse polygon edges as the explosion expanded.
Now it looks a lot smoother and pretty devastating in-game.

Most of Area 5 doesn't have proper backgrounds yet, so I guess I'll be showing you those places in a later update.

There were also some small optimizations here and there, thanks to the new sound functions included in the latest version of Game Maker Studio.

Well, I guess I'll be posting again before Christmas to wish you happy holidays.
Until then!

I have been with you since the beginning doc, you are almost there. Watching you the past few years is really like watching someone Develop a completely new Metroid game. You are trying to give us what Nintendo has not in a long time and I can't wait to see it finished. Keep going and don't give up for anything, you are in the final stretch.

P.S. I know your busy and all, but weekly updates would ease up the tension a bit. I noticed that some people were getting doubts about the completion of this game after the last update.

This game constantly reminds me of why I love Metroid. Looking forward to its full release!

I do hope that the screw attack stil makes you invunereble for zetas but doesn't damage the zeta. In the old game zetas where impossible without it. But the new zetas walk on the ground so it will be very different then the original.
Please don't make the zetas as anoying as the alfa.

For this new area ......... WOW! You realy nailed the look there. I can't wait to hear what music goes with it (maby magmoor cavern or phazon mines or santuary fortress from prime 2)

Keep up the good work

Hopefully there's a good puzzle or a lot of goodies in the tower.

(I was thinking of that one part from Metoid Prime where you destroy pillars to reach one of the Artifacts.)

I have been looking for a way into this project since the first year. I have many years of experience with art and music. I have my own convention company for con's and we constantly do work. This is an amazing chance that I'd like to be a part of. Please contact me. It would be a shame to not help

Hello there! Let me introduce myself: I am from Nintendo-Gifs, a Tumblr blog where we post nothing but gifs of Nintendo games or Nintendo related stuff(commercials, animations, etc.).
We have a fanbase of almost 30 thousand followers and I'm sure a lot of them are Metroid fans. I would love to introduce them to your project so they can support you in any way, but for that, we need gifs! If you want, you can make some for us, and we will post them with no problem for everyone to see.
If you're interested, let me know and if you want me to contact you in another way, let me know as well.
Thank you and keep up the great work!

Excellent work, Doc. Please see this through to the end. It will be well worth the effort, you'll see.
I wish there was a way to through a little compensation your way, just to show appreciation for the work.

I hope that the audio improvements entail the changing of sound effects like footsteps when underwater, before you get the Gravity Suit like in Fusion and Zero Mission.
The echoing, clacking footsteps when underwater were a small but noticeable quirk that irked me.

Nice work man.I played the demo and I can't wait to see what's in store for the real game.Though I was wondering, how come there's no plasma beam usage in either confront ion and the Am2r demo? Also when do you think you'll add another section to the demo?

Hey, I'm not sure if you get this a lot ,but your engine is awesome, and it's exactly what I've been looking to do with a game that has a similar playstyle to Metroid. I'm looking for others to help my idea come to life, and already know Game Maker, so if you want to hit me up, I want to take what you have already done - which is freaking awesome and I have played almost all of the current demo. I love how you styled it after Zero Mission, but still kept the feel of the game - And create an original game out of it that I think Metroid fans will enjoy.

Let me know. mrclean.durrant@gmail.com

Just out of curiosity, how many areas are there? I know the original game had 9 "phases," though some were very small. Have you compounded areas? Or are you up to phase 5?
